The Festive $2 Drink IKEA Shoppers Say 'Tastes Like Christmas'
Ikea is an interior design enthusiast’s wonderland. The Swedish-based furniture and interiors brand has arguably introduced most of us to the minimal aesthetic of Scandinavian design, and the prices are low enough to make curating the perfect cozy vibes easier than ever.
While most of us trek to IKEA for its stunning room displays and endless amounts of inspo, the hidden gem of the brand lies not amongst the winding corridors and multiple levels of the building but rather the chain’s food court. If you’re not in the know, IKEA has a membership plan lovingly called IKEA Family, and it’s a free program that offers a variety of perks.

From great coupons to free tea and coffee on every visit, the membership itself is a no-brainer. Aside from coffee and tea, the chain also offers legendary cinnamon rolls, hotdogs for $1, and not to mention the “mmm”-worthy Swedish meatballs. Of course, there are a few seasonal treats lining the retailer’s shelves, and one in particular is a festive beverage fans are saying “tastes like Christmas.”
The fizzy drink in question is known as Vintersaga and is a take on the traditional Swedish beverage Julmust. Typically, Julmust is a beverage served around the holidays, and it features flavor notes of herbaceous hops and rich malt. Each bottle costs $1.69 and is around 500-milliliters — or 17-ounce. Fans of the sip say it has a “unique” flavor and are begging IKEA to “ask Santa to celebrate it all year round.”

Although the majority seem to agree that this is the drink to grab on your next stop to the warehouse-style furniture mall, a few shoppers were less than impressed with the beverage’s flavor. “I guess Americans just don’t get it. Smells and tastes like a ‘sharpie’ marker. Perhaps it’s an acquired taste,” read one person’s scathing review. “Will not buy it again,” definitively said another.
Fortunately, if you’re not in the market for a festive beverage, the retailer has an extensive inventory of goods you’re sure to love. And if you are looking for a festive tipple, you can easily splash a little your favorite spirit into the spicy Vintersaga for a warm and cozy holiday treat.
