Taco Bell is letting fans pick another menu item to bring back
First, it was the viral return of Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza. Now, the Mexican-inspired fast food chain is bringing back another discontinued menu item, but with a (cinnamon) twist. According to CNET, Taco Bell is letting its patrons vote between two former offerings that are not currently on the menu.
By the end of the year, Taco Bell stans will decide whether the Double Decker Taco or the Enchirito will make its comeback.
The Double Decker Taco, a hard shell taco with the usual Taco Bell ground beef fix-ins, is wrapped into a soft, flour tortilla with refried beans. It originally debuted in 1995 as a limited time offer. In 2006, the Double Decker joined Taco Bell’s menu permanently before it was discontinued in 2019 after 13 years.
The second contender in this contest, the Enchirito, is a flour tortilla holding portions of Taco Bell beef, beans and diced onions, smothered in a red sauce and cheese. It’s basically an enchilada. Why didn’t they just call it an enchilada? Either way, the Enchirito debuted in 1970, but was discontinued in 2013.
Voting began Sept. 27 through the Taco Bell app, where die-hard customers can voice their opinions until the poll closes Oct. 6. According to Taco Bell, the results will be announced Oct. 7 and the winning item will be placed on Taco Bell menus at a later date.
With the explosion of support to bring back the Mexican Pizza, it’s no surprise that Taco Bell is crowdsourcing which other classic menu items also deserve a comeback story.
