Special surprise for young hero who is continuing his good deeds

Had it not been for the calm and composed actions of 11-year-old Ned Compton, there is no telling what fate could have met his neighbour Elizabeth Taylor when she fell in her backyard.

“I was wondering how long I was going to be sitting in the hot sun, covered in grass,” Taylor told Sunrise.

“I was (worried). That’s why I called out, ‘Help, can somebody call an ambulance please?’.”

Taylor had fallen in the backyard of her Ipswich home and was unable to get up.

She was there for an hour before Ned heard her calls while he was watching TV two blocks down and immediately sprang into action.

He jumped on his bike for the short trip past a vacant lot to Taylor’s home, calling triple-0 on the way.

“There’s an old lady that’s hurt?” Queensland Ambulance Service operator Terry Hands asked, in a recording of the emergency call supplied to Sunrise.

Ned replied: “Yeah, I’m riding there on my bike right now.”

“How do you know that this old lady’s fallen down? What’s happening?” Hands asked.

“I called out (for) who needed help,” Ned replied.

“She’s been there for an hour … I might jump the fence to see if she’s OK.”

Ned was able to give clear information on his whereabouts for an ambulance to find them.

“For an 11-year-old boy, he’s an absolute little champion,” Hands told Sunrise.

“He’s a triple-0 hero. He gave me the information and helped Elizabeth greatly that day.”

Ned and Taylor have now formed a firm friendship which even extends to Ned mowing her lawn.

I didn’t want her falling over in the grass again and getting hurt,” he said.

And to make the task easier, Stihl has provided Ned with a new mower.

“I was worried about him burning the motor out of his mother’s mower,” Taylor said.

“I stopped him doing my backyard because it was too high.”
