SNL Vet Chris Redd Involved In Scary Attack Ahead Of Comedy Club Performance
Saturday Night Live alum Chris Redd was attacked last night outside of the Comedy Cellar in New York City. He was on his way into the venue to do a show when someone came up and punched him in the face.
According to TMZ the comedian was taken to the hospital right after and is OK. In the story, sources explained that the attack happened around 9:40 p.m. when a guy got out of a car ran up to Redd, punched him, and ran away. The sources said the suspect was not caught because he fled the scene. The article also explained that witnesses saw police photograph Redd’s injuries, including a “deep cut” on his nose.
In an update to the report, TMZ explained that Redd was wearing a Greg Yuna chain that the person who attacked him tried to take. The article also stated that since it’s a link necklace, when it was pulled from Redd’s neck it fell apart and onto the street. These types of chains cost anywhere from $600 to $20,000 depending on if there are diamonds in the necklace.
The report explained that the police do not know the motive for the alleged assault.
Redd was at the Comedy Cellar to perform that night. According to the comedian’s website, he is scheduled to perform tonight at the Comedy Cellar as well, and then again on October 30 at City Winery in New York City.
This happened about a month after news came out that Redd was reportedly dating Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife. Thompson and Christina Evangeline filed for divorce in June. While this news drew a lot of attention, allegedly there really isn’t that much drama surrounding the topic, and both Thompson and Evangeline are reportedly “dating other people.”
In Saturday Night Live news, Redd left the show, and he was on the list of many cast members who decided to leave ahead of Season 48. Along with him, Kate McKinnon left the show, along with Pete Davidson, and a few others.
While SNL is about to enter its fourth show of the year, according to the fall TV schedule, with more hosts and musical guests to come for Season 48, Redd is staying busy with other work. Along with his shows in New York City this month, he will be taking his stand-up across the country throughout the rest of 2022 and early 2023.
Redd will also be a part of the film Spinning Gold, a biopic about Neil Bogart, the co-founder of Casablanca Records. He is set to play Frankie Crocker, a famous disc jockey from the ’70s. The cast also includes Jeremy Jordan as Bogart, along with Michelle Monaghan, Jason Isaacs, Wiz Khalifa, Jason Derulo, and fellow SNL alum Jay Pharoah.
Throughout 2022 Redd also appeared on the shows Kenan, Bust Down and one episode of The Simpsons.
It’s good to know that after this scary attack, Redd is OK and has some exciting live shows and projects in the works.
