San Francisco’s Fall Restaurant Week returns with deals at 160-plus restaurants

Need a good reason to head into San Francisco this month, besides the city’s legendarily lovely October weather?

More than 160 restaurants are participating in the Golden Gate Restaurant Association’s Fall Restaurant Week, with meal deals that run from Friday, Oct. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 30. Lunch/brunch meals are offered at the $10, $15, $25 or $30 levels and three-course dinners are priced at $30, $45, $65 or $75. Outdoor dining choices abound.

We took a spin through the neighborhood options. Among the highlights:

— Head into the city’s Chinatown and you can enjoy lunch for just $10 at Grant Place, AA Bakery & Cafe, Delicious Dim Sum or Good Luck Cafe, among others. More than two dozen restaurants and tea shops in this neighborhood are offering deals.

— At all 10 of the Proper Food locations, the $10 takeout brunch features a power breakfast plate of free-range eggs, sweet potatoes and blanched kale plus a 16-ounce drip coffee.

— At Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack in Bernal Heights, order the $30 pre fixe meal of spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar salad and focaccia, and you’ll also get a 25% discount on alcoholic beverages.

— On Fisherman’s Wharf, Scoma’s $65 menu starts with clam chowder or another appetizer, tombo tuna or spicy braised lamb with pappardelle as a main, and torta or cannoli for dessert. A glass of wine comes with the meal.

— In Cow Hollow, the $25 and $45 Caribbean menus at the Palm House start with choices like coconut-crusted prawns or tuna poke. The brunch mains include avocado benedict and fried rice-stuff pineapple; for dinner there are kalbi ribs and jerk chicken.

— Jasper’s Corner Tap and Kitchen at Union Square is offering $25 and $45 meals, with the option to add on a beer flight for $8. Menu choices include filet of sole piccata and Ghirardelli chocolate mousse with Irish whiskey.

— On the Embarcadero, the two La Mar Cebicheria Peruana menus, $30 lunch or $75 dinner, feature lomo saltado, ceviche, empanadas and more.

— At the Matterhorn, a longtime favorite on Van Ness, you can select between cheese fondue or pork schnitzel for your main course. The $45 menu also comes with charcuterie or salad, plus dessert.
