MUMBAI: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar will join the officer-bearers of the BCCI in felicitating India’s Under-19 Women’s World Cup-winning team, just before the third T20 between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday night.
“It is with great delight I share that Bharat Ratna Shri@sachin_rt and @BCCI Office Bearers will felicitate the victorious India U19 team on Feb 1st in Narendra Modi Stadium at 6:30 PM IST. The young cricketers have made India proud and we will honour their achievements,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted on Monday evening.

Soon after the India Women’s Under-19 team won the inaugural youth World Cup on Sunday, beating England by seven wickets in the final at Potchefstroom, South Africa, Shah had invited the side to watch the third T20I in Ahmedabad on February 1. The triumph ended India’s long wait in women’s cricket for a World Cup.
“I invite @TheShafaliVerma and her victorious team to join us at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad and witness the third T20I on 1st February. This humongous achievement surely calls for a celebration. @BCCI@BCCIWomen,” Shah had tweeted.

Verma, Ghosh likely to miss party
Meanwhile, India’s Women’s Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma and her teammate Richa Ghosh are likely to miss the team’s celebrations in Ahmedabad on Wednesday as they will stay back in South Africa and join the India senior women’s team for the Women’s T20 World Cup, which will kick off on February 10.
“Yes, Shafali and Richa will stay back in SA and join the senior team for the T20 World Cup,” a reliable source told TOI. India launch their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Newlands, Cape Town, on February 12.
