The alleged theft sparked anxiety among staff of the store because Jimmy requires specific medication.

“Jimmy needs to come back, Jimmy needs his medication. Whatever happens to Jimmy is on your hands,” Tara Crosby, from Marsden Pet and Produce, told 7NEWS on Monday.

“This is the last thing you expect to happen, a pup to get (allegedly) stolen.”

Staff appealed for Jimmy’s return on social media.

And on Monday afternoon, Jimmy was returned to the store, along with a note purportedly explaining the girl’s action.

“Very sorry my little girl has taken the puppy,” the note read.

“She thought it was free.

“We didn’t know ‘til we got home.

“I’m very sorry.

“Please, my girl didn’t know better.”

Police say they are investigating.
