Prince Andrew ‘loves school dinner-type food’ – including £3 British staple

Prince Andrew, 63, is said to enjoy pies so much that caterers made sure they were always available whenever he used an RAF Royal Flight aircraft as a working royal, according to sources. One RAF source previously said: “The tastes of regular flyers are always catered for.

“It is known that the Duke of York, for instance, loves Sainsbury’s meat and potato pie, with lots of gravy, so it’s ­always provided as an option.”

Although it’s not known which pie Prince Andrew liked to consume on his flights, there is a beef and potato pie available on the Sainsbury’s website for just £3.

The product description says: “Beef with potato, swede and onion in beef gravy topped with roasted diced potatoes.”

Royal author Margaret Holder has previously opened up about the Duke of York’s diet.

She said: “The Duke of York is well known for his love of school dinner-type food.

“He is the product of institutions, from public school at Gordonstoun to the Royal Navy, and the love of hearty food has stayed with him.”

As well as a stodgy pie, Prince Andrew is said to love healthier options too, such as fresh mangoes.

These were also loved by the late Queen Elizabeth II, according to the chefs that worked for her.

John Higgins, a former chef at Buckingham Palace, explained to the National Post about how much Her Late Majesty loved the fruit.

He said: “She could tell you how many mangoes were in the fridge at Buckingham Palace”.

Darren McGrady, a former royal chef, also shared with The Telegraph that Prince Andrew likes the exotic fruit.

“Every Christmas, he’d get sent a gift of mangoes and he’d come into the kitchen bellowing: ‘Where are my mangoes?’” the chef claimed.

According to reports, the late Queen made sure Prince Andrew’s favourite sweet treat was served whenever he came to visit.

This sweet treat is crème brûlée with Sandringham oranges, according to Darren McGrady.

However, the royal chefs did not use just any oranges.

The late Queen ensured that these oranges were specifically chosen from Sandringham when in season.
