Police officers’ parking act slammed: ‘Where should I complain?’

A police car parked in a disabled spot has been flagged by an angry local who said the officers had stopped to vote in the NSW election.

NSW Police said they are investigating the incident, which has sparked outrage and debate online.

“Police parking in a disabled spot so they can vote in Mascot. Where should I complain?,” the picture posted to Reddit on Monday was captioned.

“They were voting. They were behind me in line. Took us all ages,” they said.

NSW Police told 7NEWS.com.au: “Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command have commenced inquiries after receiving a report of a marked police vehicle stopped in a disabled parking spot in Mascot.

“Members of the public are reminded they can report concerns via the NSWPF Community Assistance Portal online.”

The NSW election takes place on Saturday, and although many people are eligible to vote early at various polling stations, some observers questioned how necessary the police stop actually was.

“I have no issue with them voting while on the clock, I do have an issue with them having to park in a disabled spot. They have five more days to vote, even if they can’t find time when they’re not working, they can at least wait until they’re not disadvantaging a disabled person,” one person said.

“As a disabled person, this is really disappointing to read. I greatly appreciate someone sticking up for people like myself. Not a lot of people will,” another said.

Some argued that should an emergency arise, the police would need to be able to quickly access the car. “They (police) take breaks, but if an emergency happens they have to go,” another said.

But others disagreed, stating it wasn’t fair.

“They should be fined for this, if anyone else were to do it they’d be fined… what’s the difference?” one wrote.

“Some able-bodied parasite using a relative’s disability sticker would have just taken that spot anyway,” another added.
