Only One Democrat Can Replace Joe Biden, And It’s The GOP’s Worst Nightmare

While factions inside the GOP carry on the Trump v. DeSantis debate, the Democrats have a presidential nominee choice of their own to make with a possible frontrunner throwing the first clue she could be entering the ring.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has long been touted as a Democrat secret weapon to drum up support from the party’s base, which (should she decide to run) would make her a top candidate to take on the GOP nominee, even over current President Joe Biden.

During an ABC News special on Sunday, Obama admitted that she thought Biden was “doing a great job” as president but curiously didn’t endorse him for a 2024 run. (RELATED: Are Lonely Wine Karens Ruining Our Country? Exit Poll Reveals The Depressing Truth)

Even when asked if she’d like to see Biden run for president again, she stammered: “You know, I will have to see.” Obama played off her hesitation as a simple willingness to admit that taking on the task of Commander in Chief was a hard decision and one that would need to be made between the president and First Lady Jill Biden.

“It’s a personal decision that he and his family have to make. Probably, if I hadn’t been through it, I would feel more cavalier about opining on it. But I know it’s a personal call, and I don’t want to be one of the millions of people weighing in on what he should do, he and Jill should do,” Obama said.

“It’s probably the only job that few people know what it feels like to do, but everybody thinks they know how to do it,” Obama added. “But it’s a tough job and I think that he’s doing the best he can under some tough circumstances.”

On Joe Rogan’s podcast on Christmas Eve 2021, Rogan suggested Obama could win the Democratic nomination if she wanted the job.

“I really believe if Michelle Obama runs, she wins,” Rogan told his audience. “She’s great. She’s intelligent. She’s articulate. She’s the wife of the best president that we have had in our lifetime in terms of like representative of intelligent, articulate people.”

Obama has first-hand experience of the sacrifice it takes to run the country after serving eight years as First Lady alongside her husband. Biden, who is 79 and will be 15 days shy of his 82nd birthday on November 5, 2024, said in September that it was “much too early” to decide on another presidential run. Although his party took less of a beating in the midterms than Republicans had hoped, his presidential approval ratings are too low for him to argue his policies are popular nationwide. Polling from FiveThirtyEight shows only a 41% approval rating, with over 53% disapproving of his job as president.

That is where Obama has her opening to become the first black female to be elected President of the United States under the Democratic party ticket.

She is currently number three among the top public figures, with only her husband and Martin Luther King Jr. ranking higher than the former First Lady, according to YouGov polling. The company measured Michelle Obama’s “popularity and fame” against other prominent figures in the third quarter of 2022.

Of the 1,554 respondents, 56% gave her a positive approval rating, 30% said they disliked Obama, and 11% felt neutral about her. Her approval rating is almost equal among females (59%), and males (53%), the polling found.

Additionally, she shows more robust support among young voters, a significant Democratic voting bloc, according to the poll. Over 60% of Millenials give her a positive approval rating, 54% of Gen X and 52% of Baby Boomers agree. (RELATED: The GOP Got Handed A Silver Platter Win. Are They Smart Enough To Take It?)

The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning & Engagement (CIRCLE) at Tufts University found young voter turnout for the 2022 midterms was a crucial part of the Democrats’ election victories. Estimates from CIRCLE found that 27% of young voters ages 18-29 cast a ballot in the 2022 midterms, down only 4% from the historic 2018 election, which saw 31% of young voters turning out to vote.

These young voters making up 12% of the total vote, supported Democratic candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives over Republicans: 62% to 35%, according to CIRCLE. Obama’s chances nationally increase when looking at important electoral college states (FL, GA, MI, NC, NH, NV, OH, PA, WI) where the young vote at 31% was higher than the U.S. average for youth turnout.

“Young people proved once again that they’ll turn out to vote and impact election results, and their turnout in 2022 is one of the highest we’ve ever seen in a midterm election,” Newhouse Director of CIRCLE, Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg said. “There’s both a big need and extraordinary potential to continue building on this trend of strong youth voting by stepping up our support for all youth to have a voice in our democracy.”
