New SF hot pot restaurant serves a ‘Ferris wheel’ of meat

The beef and lamb combo is a special at Hotpot Champ with 12 servings of thinly sliced meat. The dish costs about $50 and is an excellent option for customers new to hot pot or for guests with a lighter appetite, owner Patrick Xia told SFGATE.
“The idea is a tasting menu for first-time hot potters [who] don’t know what to order or what they like,” Xia said. “The presentation is on a wheel. You can play around and have fun during your meal.”
Hotpot Champ adds an element of playfulness throughout. Xia shared that other cuts of meat on the menu are served in golden dish sculptures in the shape of cows and pigs. Moreover, the restaurant enlisted a robot’s help to deliver tableside meals.
Xia shared he wants to promote Chinese food through flavorful hot pots, which he believes are often overlooked when compared to other regional Chinese staples. He hopes to change that with Hotpot Champ.
