New Girl Scout cookie reselling for up to $80 a box
The Girl Scouts’ newest cookie, Raspberry Rally, is already selling out. You can still find them on resale sites such as eBay, but with a wild markup — in some cases as much as 1,500%.
The cookie, which is similar to a Thin Mint but with a raspberry flavor inside, launched Feb. 27. These new cookies were sold specifically online, at $5 plus shipping, to help the Girl Scouts practice e-commerce sales.
But some people are making much more money off them.
A quick check on eBay shows that resellers are auctioning single boxes for about $25. In one instance, though, a reseller in Rancho Santa Margarita sold one box for $80, according to Axios. A spokesperson from the Girl Scouts’ national organization said they were “disappointed to see unauthorized resales,” in a statement to the news website.
In Northern California, the Raspberry Rallies aren’t even available yet. The cookie-selling season from Gilroy up to the Oregon border doesn’t start until March 8. In anticipation of a quick sellout for the NorCal council, the Girl Scouts’ Instagram account asked followers, “What do Beyoncé tickets & Raspberry Rally have in common?” The answer is: “They both sell out quickly!!!”
When Girl Scouts announce new cookies, the first year is always a trial to see how well the cookie will sell against the mainstays of the brand, such as Caramel deLites/Samoas, a spokesperson told SFGATE by email. Last year, the Girl Scouts announced a new cookie called Adventurefuls, which sold out quickly because of their limited-edition status. The brownie-based cookies with caramel filling certainly passed the test. This year, after much success in the 2022 trial run, Adventurefuls are part of the main lineup. Raspberry Rally cookies sure look to be on the same path.
