By India Today Web Desk: Pat Cummins confirmed that Mitchell Starc would take the new ball in Australia’s first ODI against England, to be played on Thursday, November 17 at the Adelaide Oval.

After their early exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, the Aussies are set for their next assignment against the Three Lions, who will be high on confidence after becoming the world champions in the 20-over format.

Lauding Starc, Cummins said that the left-arm fast bowler has continued playing a key role for the Australian national team across formats.

“Mitchell Starc will definitely take the new ball, and probably Joshy as well. He’s all good, Starcy. He’s great around the side as he always is, really positive,” Cummins was quoted as saying to the reporters.

“Hopefully he knows his value to us as he’s been fantastic, especially in one-day cricket. The last two (50-over) World Cups, he’s been close to player of the tournament in both of them, so he’s a huge player for us,” he stated.

“And we’ve got 15 Test matches which I’m sure he’ll be involved in just about every single one of them,” Cummins added.

Starc didn’t play in Australia’s last game in the World Cup, where they defeated Afghanistan in a closely-fought contest in Adelaide.

On Starc’s selections and omissions, Cummins, who recently replaced Aaron Finch as the ODI skipper, said that One Day cricket is a different ballgame altogether than the T20 format.

In the World Cup, Starc picked up three wickets from as many matches at an economy rate of 8.50.
