Man’s shocking find inside peach can

A man has opened up about the horrifying moment he claims to have found a syringe inside a tin of peaches he had been eating from for two weeks.

Dave McKell told Nine News he went to put the Gold Reef canned peaches onto his Weet-Bix breakfast when he found the syringe poking out of the syrup.

“I saw the top of it and thought ’what’s that white thing on the to and found the whole plunger sitting there,” he said.

He said he had been eating from the same can for two weeks.

The Perth man had bought the 825g tin from the Greenwood Village Coles store in Perth’s north and had returned to the store to notify staff.

“I’d like to see it get off the shelves for starters,” he said.

He said the staff asked him to fill out an incident report and they wanted to take the can as evidence of the claim.

However, he refused to give them the can.

“I’m a bit turned off by peaches now. I might go pears,” he said.

Mr Mckell said he will now undergo blood tests to ensure he hasn’t contracted any illness from the syringe.

A Coles spokesman told Nine News they had never had an incident with the supplier of the product.

The product, which is packed in South Africa using local ingredients, is sold in Coles stores for $3.

“We apologise to the customer for their experience,” a statement from Coles read.

“We’re taking this matter very seriously and will be investigating with our supplier.”

NCA Newswire has contacted Coles for additional comment.
