Los Gatos: Manresa Bread gets ready to open its second all-day bakery/cafe
Manresa Bread founder Avery Ruzicka and her team have a busy baking season ahead of them.
On Thursday, Oct. 27, they will open the doors of a long-planned, new flagship location in Los Gatos at 40 N. Santa Cruz Avenue — just a third of a mile from the original bakery at 276 N. Santa Cruz.
The new venue will be an all-day cafe with 1,400 square feet of space and both indoor and outdoor seating, similar to Manresa Bread’s location in downtown Campbell. Sandwiches, quiche and seasonal salads will supplement the bakery menu of house-milled sourdough breads, kouign amann, croissants and other pastries.
Then, on Nov. 7, a Manresa Bread bakery will make its debut in Santa Cruz, the fifth city for the enterprise. Besides Los Gatos and Campbell, there are locations in Palo Alto, where a Town & Country Village shop opened just six months ago, and Los Altos.
“We are so thankful for our Manresa Bread loyalists in Santa Cruz who have consistently driven over the hill to support us all these years,” Ruzicka, a Santa Cruz resident, told Mercury News sister newspaper the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
Thanksgiving pre-orders for holiday desserts are already being accepted by the 330 Ingalls St. shop. This location will sell pastries, breads and grab-and-go items from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Manresa Bread was launched in 2013 as farmers market stands by Ruzicka and David Kinch, chef-owner of the three-Michelin-starred Manresa restaurant in Los Gatos, so that locals could buy breads they had enjoyed in his restaurant. The Los Gatos bakery opened in 2015.
What’s to become of that building?
According to the bakery’s announcement, “Ruzicka is expected to debut a new concept in the original Los Gatos space … with additional details to come.”
