Kate and William suffered three mishaps at their wedding
The Prince and Princess of Wales married on Friday 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey. The couple had been in a relationship since 2003 and this year, they celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary. Express.co.uk has taken a look back at the big day and the three mishaps that occurred.
Wedding jitters
An estimated 162 million people worldwide tuned in to watch Kate and William say I do at Westminster Abbey, and understandably the Prince was very nervous.
He admitted he had only slept “about 30 minutes” the night before, and told reporters he was nervous about “the whole thing”.
Before Kate arrived, William and Prince Harry took themselves to a quiet corner and Duncan Larcombe, former royal editor of The Sun who attended the wedding spotted the princes and told Elle magazine in 2017 how “William looked absolutely terrified”.
The reporter added: “They came out afterwards and gave a deep breath.”

The wedding ring was too small
After reading their vows, Kate and William went on to exchange rings but when William placed the gold band on Kate’s finger, he struggled to slide it up.
It was widely reported that Kate had her wedding band altered after she lost weight in the build-up to the wedding.
To ensure it didn’t slip off during the ceremony, she had it sized slightly smaller, but it was mistakenly made too small, hence why William struggled to get it on.
Stalled the car
Following their ceremony, the newlywed couple drove from Buckingham Palace to Clarence House for their buffet wedding reception which 650 people had been invited to and it was hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.
The couple drove in style in King Charles’ Aston Martin which was festooned with red, white and blue ribbons, balloons and L-plates.
But they didn’t get far because William had a false start when he had forgotten to release the handbrake and as a result they stalled.
Arthur Edwards, a royal photographer for the Sun, spoke about the car during a conversation with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2011.
He revealed how William had asked his father if he could borrow his car, and in return, Charles had explained to him how to pull off without stalling.
As for the car, it was a present from the late Queen to Charles on his 21st birthday in 1969.
