JB HI-Fi worker reveals secret hacks

JB Hi-Fi workers have revealed how to score the best deals in store but also the terrible “abuse” that has been “hurled” at them by customers.

Employee Auj Mirza has revealed the hacks to save money when shopping at the electronics retailer.

She said there’s a neat trick to get money back if a product you have purchased goes on sale within two weeks.

“If you buy a product from JB Hi-Fi and that same product goes on sale, literally bring it back within two weeks and we will refund you the difference,” she said.

Ms Mirza said JB Hi-Fi matches prices if you see a product that is cheaper at another electronics store, but not online prices.

“If you see a product that is cheaper at another store, show us, because we will price match,” she noted.

Don’t be afraid to ask for a discount either, especially if you buy a large number of products at once, she revealed.

However don’t despair if a product is out of stock in one store, just ask for it to be transferred from another JB-Hi-Fi store, she said.

“If you go into the store and they don’t have the stock of the product, just tell them to transfer the stock in from another store,” she said.

Another tip to get served quickly is to head to the Apple desk and avoid the queues, depending on how busy it is in store.

“If you want to get served as soon as possible, go to the Apple desk because I can guarantee someone will come serve you ASAP,” she added.

Ms Mirza added common items including hard-drives, SD cards and Apple accessories were kept behind the counter, so it’s best to ask staff for help.

But be warned – staff and security may assume you are trying to steal something if you are wearing a hooded jumper with the hood on your head.

Jesse Hyland is one former employee who experienced colourful customers in his three years working at JB Hi-Fi’s Jamisontown store in Sydney’s west.

“From barefoot customers drinking alcohol inside the store to middle-aged women refusing to open handbags that were clearly bulging with stolen items, staff chasing thieves all the way to their cars, youths trying to ram a huge speaker into a security guard, and a manager – a former cop – who was caught stealing,” he wrote in the Daily Mail.

“But my most memorable experience was the time a snarling middle-aged woman tried to push past me into a staffroom – then threatened to call the cops on me.”

He said the older lady “blasted” counter staff for not issuing an immediate refund on a television she claimed was broken because she was late to catch a bus.

“A manager took her TV out to the back storeroom to check it as she hurled abuse,” he recounted.

But staff were shocked when she ran around the counter and “burst” through the staffroom door until she was forced out by a co-worker.

Mr Hyland said he was asked to keep her out and “was met with the snarling face of a woman who clearly had something wrong with her” who screamed at him and ordered him out of the way as he blocked the doorway.

He was charged at by the woman, who started pushing him and eventually fell over. She then got her phone out to film and claimed she had been assaulted.

After she filmed other staff members in store for half an hour, managers asked her to leave with her TV, Mr Hyland said.

“She then left the store in a huff, pushing her big television across the floor once again in front of onlookers who had gathered to watch the dramatic scene unfold,” he said.

“The woman told my managers that she would call the police and wait for them to arrive outside the store. She never called the police.

“The whole experience had been quite distressing for some of my colleagues who had been at the centre of the woman’s abuse. One co-worker was left in tears.”

But he added many customers were friendly and just looking for help.
