‘Iconic’ Red Rooster item quietly disappears from the menu
Red Rooster fans have been left reeling after word spread of an ‘iconic’ fan favourite item disappearing from the menu.
The chain’s famous chicken and gravy roll is reportedly no longer being sold, with devastated fans taking to social media to share their heartbreak.
In a passionate plea, Facebook user Samuel spoke of his upsetting experience while trying to order his favourite item at his local Red Rooster recently.
“Red Rooster, I just tried to order a chicken and gravy roll from one of your restaurants only to be informed that this menu item has been discontinued,” he started the post.
“For me, the classic chicken and gravy roll was one of the quintessential elements of your whole menu, one of the integral pillars of what a good Aussie chicken shop should be about.
“Untainted by the unnecessary additions of fancy sauces, plastic cheese, and wilted salad accoutrements.
“I was left most disappointed by the discovery that this simple but satisfying food item has been unceremoniously removed from the menu.”
The impassioned customer went on to explain his “hack” to get around the removal of the item, by ordering another chain favourite and ‘DIY-ing’ his craving.
“I ended up ordering a Rooster Roll, hold the mayo, and a small gravy,” he said.
“Leaving the simple construction of this delicious treat in my own hands. The staff, bless them, hadn’t the knowledge or ability to apply a generous splash of gravy to the rooster roll sans mayo.
“A task left to I, the consumer, to complete in the carpark.
“If the reintroduction of this item (for which the only three ingredients necessary are listed in the name, and ingredients I would assume are in relative abundance in a business specialising in roasted chicken) is impossible, then capitalism truly has failed.”
His post quickly gained traction from saddened Red Rooster fans, while another “devastating” revelation was made about the menu.
“Sadly, they have also discontinued my favourite also, the roast dinner with peas and gravy,” one commented.
“They should probably just shut up shop now that they’ve cut out their classics.”
“Oh mate, I think my heart just broke a little” another said.
“This is devastating news.”
Some customers stated that some stores around the country have complied with their request to still make a chicken and gravy roll, despite it no longer being on the menu.
“Literally just ordered this last night on the Sunny Coast and it was fine.” said one.
“Maybe it’s just our Red Roosters but all the stores in Townsville will still make it even with it not being on the menu anymore.” said another.
