I Tried the Bottle of Wine from ‘The Last of Us’ and Here's What I Think of the Scene-Stealing Drink
Ahead of the season finale, here’s my review of the Maison Louis Jadot wine.
I consider myself a bit of an amateur wine drinker—I mean, I’m no sommelier by any means—but at the very least, I can differentiate the taste of a good bottle of wine from, you know, the boxed stuff. When Maison Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais-Villages was featured in episode three of HBO’s The Last of Us, my wine-loving taste buds perked up. Would it really be my drink of choice if the world descended into a post-apocalyptic era with killer zombie fungi on the loose and I wanted to pop a cork before becoming Infected?
While studies show that having a glass of wine with dinner reduces your likelihood of developing diabetes by 14 percent (promising news for us oenophiles), the jury’s still out, of course, on whether Maison Louis Jadot (or any vino for that matter) can save us from Ophiocordyceps unilateralis—the Cordyceps “zombie fungus” the Last of Us fungus is based on.
Still, I was willing to try. I mean, you don’t have to twist my arm too much to get me to pour a bottle of red.

Also, I’m easily influenced by anything Nick Offerman (who plays a small role in the third episode) does.

With the Season 1 finale coming up on Sunday, March 12, the Beaujolais-Villages bottle—a light red blend with plenty of body—makes a perfect pairing with the show. As we all tune in to find out what will happen to 14-year-old Ellie Williams (played by Bella Ramsey) and her unlikely buddy Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal), we might as well be accompanied by a full-to-the-brim goblet.

My Honest Review of the Maison Louis Jadot Wine from The Last of Us
I highly recommend curling up on the couch with a blanket and a glass of Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais-Villages. Light but accompanied by lots of body, it goes so well with a casual night in, watching TV or catching up with loved ones, because it’s not as heavy as some other wines. Sipping on something so easily drinkable would be the ideal way to wind down and enjoy your evening. It’s dense and fruity with notes of cherry.
Obviously, it’s a quality, drinkable wine that, to me, feels pretty versatile. That being said, I wanted to learn more about what makes Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais-Villages stand out in one of the most oversaturated, competitive markets there is.

Touted as the #1 selling French wine in America, Louis Jadot’s Beaujolais-Villages makes a great first impression thanks to the high-quality grapes that are grown in southern Beaujolais. The flavors of sweet strawberries and black cherries really do it for me.
Personally, I really enjoyed pairing it with cheese, grapes and crackers for a little makeshift charcuterie board. I imagine it’d also pair well with little bites of miscellaneous hors d’oeuvres (and if you wanted to have it with dinner, a poultry dish too).

Next time I break open a bottle of one of these babies, I’ll definitely try pairing it with something sweet, like strawberries. Ooooh, chocolate-covered strawberries would be perfect, actually!
I really can’t recommend this particular bottle enough—especially if you want to get an inside look into the world in which The Last of Us is set. (You know, without all the threat of violence and death!)
Ultimately, I’d definitely reach for a glass of Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Villages as my final drink if the world was coming to an end…or, if I was just looking to enjoy a relaxing evening at home.
