If you haven’t heard, Arby’s just announced new sweet and spicy menu items, and they will have you drooling in no time.
On the list are two new sandwiches featuring King’s Hawaiian buns—a crispy chicken and beef and brisket. In addition to the new sweet heat sammies, they are also launching a loaded French fry recipe that includes chicken, cheese, barbecue and bacon!
These loaded fries sounded too good not to try to recreate at home, so of course I had to create a simple, out-of-this-world-delicious copycat recipe.

What’s In Arby’s Sweet and Spicy Sauce?
Asking this question myself, I turned to the Internet for some answers. What I discovered is nobody truly knows. Most who have tasted the new spicy sweet King’s Hawaiian sandwiches describe the sauce as a “ketchup or barbecue sauce with extra spice.”
This made sense since “Arby’s sauce” they are famous for is a barbecue sauce and their Diablo sauce from last year’s spicy challenge was thought to be a barbecue sauce with roasted jalapeños included. (Hence, why I added a few diced peppers to this recipe too!)

What Are Arby’s Loaded Fries Topped With?
This new fry recipe will no doubt have people flocking to Arby’s. Crinkle-cut french fries are loaded with sweet and spicy sauce, cheese sauce, chopped chicken nuggets and bacon.
After the success of their Diablo sandwiches and fries last year, Arby’s wanted to build on that with more complex flavors and give customers the best of both worlds.

Do I Have To Shred My Own Cheese?
For this recipe, yes. I am not against using bags of pre-shredded cheese whenever I can. However, they include an anti-clumping agent, usually cellulose, that can affect the way it melts.
Whenever I make a homemade cheese sauce, I always shred my own for the best ooey-gooey results.

My Take on the Recipe
My version of these fries stacked with flavor takes a little help from the grocery store with frozen fries, barbecue sauce and chicken tenders. However, it includes a super easy homemade nacho cheese sauce that has so many uses.
I also included some diced pickled jalapeño peppers to really pump up the heat factor—but they could easily be omitted if your taste buds can’t take the extra spice.

Best Tips
- The 32-ounce bag of fries will be enough for four baskets or plates.
- You want one large chicken tender for each portion of fries.
- Want even more spice? Add extra hot sauce to the cheese and use fresh jalapeños.
- Shred your own cheese for the best melting.
- When adding cheese to the skillet, stir in a figure-eight motion for even cooking.
- Buffalo-style chicken tenders would be delicious too.
- Fresh bacon (about four strips) would work too. Even real bacon bits could be used.
- This nacho cheese recipe can also be used for a great dip, sheet pan nachos, macaroni, etc.
