How Long Beach’s Bamboo Club is celebrating its 4th anniversary
With classic Tiki-style bamboo decor, indoor water fountains, tropical wall murals that add to the island feel and, of course, plenty of colorful cocktails to order at the bar, The Bamboo Club in Long Bleach will be celebrating its fourth anniversary April 28-30.
“It’s been a wild ride since we opened up,” said co-owner Brett Gallo ahead of the weekend party, which will include a musical lineup with several local artists.
“We’ve definitely become a stop for the Tiki tourists and we’re excited that we’re on the map now and we also have our locals that are here all the time,” he added.
The celebration starts on Friday, April 28 with Clown Sounds, which includes members from bands like F.Y.P. and Toys That Kill. They’ll be followed by Fartbarf, who pair robotic rhythms with danceable beats.
“This is going to be a great way to kick off the weekend with Fartbarf, I think this will definitely sell out for sure,” Gallo said.
On Saturday, the Tiki bar goes European with French Pop and French ’60s Euro-beat band Plastered in Paris. The night will also include DJ sets by Lilibird, Dennis Owens and DJ Pierrot.
The festivities wrap up on Sunday with East Los Angeles trio El Haru Kuroi, who blend the sounds of Mexican, South American, African music and jazz. They’ll be followed by a special surprise guest.
Gallo and his business partners opened the restaurant and bar in 2019 and quickly gained a following among the Tiki-loving crowd thanks to its tropical island-style interior, designed by the highly respected Bamboo Ben, a third generation Tiki builder who has designed famous places like the TikiCat in Kansas City, Missouri, and Zombie Village in San Francisco.
It also serves traditional Tiki drinks and food like The Painkiller, a cocktail made with pineapple, coconut cream and orange juice. They’re also known for their classic Mai Tai cocktails and dishes like the Hawaiian favorite, Loco Moco.
But over the years The Bamboo Club has also earned a reputation as a place for live music, comedy nights and DJ-driven dance parties.
“During the day, it’s definitely a chill vibe and at night time we typically get a little louder and we support a lot of live music. It’s just a good time,” Gallo said.
