How Continental wants to cut operating costs for van drivers

Continental has released a new tyre it claims will offer improved mileage, durability, grip and rolling resistance for vans.

The company says the VanContact Ultra tyre, available now, will contribute to “helping van drivers reduce the operating costs associated with tyre wear” with its latest generation of functionalised polymers.

“The closed pattern design includes fewer and smaller lateral grooves in the shoulder, resulting in excellent mileage performance and a reduction in tyre wear and road noise – meaning a longer and more comfortable drive,” the company says.

Continental says the new tyre has thicker rubber blocks and a scuff rib around the entire side of the tyre which will increase durability and assist in the prevention of kerb damage without compromising on tyre grip.

It’s offering a range of sizes catering for rims of between 15- and 17-inches.

Continental is releasing this tyre against a backdrop of increasing running costs and growth in online shopping, the latter helping fuel van sales.

According to the Australian Automobile Association, average vehicle maintenance costs are steadily increasing.

The most expensive capital city in Australia for servicing and tyres is Canberra with residents paying an average of $2185 per year for servicing and tyres compared to Adelaide averaging $1360 per year.

A courier van could see higher-than-average costs, based on the frequency of use and payload associated with day-to-day operations.
