Homebuyer rejected for home gifted a scratchie by agent
Rejection letters are never easy to receive, but one real estate agent has made a thoughtful attempt to soften the blow for the hopeful buyer of a home.
The agent typed out a heartfelt message for the person they rejected and attached a scratchie in what they hoped would make the disappointment a little easier to bear.
Using the title, “REALLY SORRY YOU MISSED OUT”, the author of the letter seemed genuinely crushed at having to break the sad news, emphasising “how sorry we are that you missed out”.
“I know how keen you were to make it yours and as much as we love our work, there are parts that are difficult,” the letter, shared to social media, read.
“Telling someone the bad news that they have missed out on a property that they are very keen on, is certainly the worst part of our role. I wish we had more properties like this one for those who have missed out on this home.”
The cherry on top was the agent’s offering of a scratchie which they hoped might help the buyer increase their spending capacity on the next home.
“I enclose a scratchie to try and soften the disappointment! I’m hoping that this will be a lucky one which will boost your kitty, so next time you can extend your offer just that little bit more,” they wrote.
“As promised I will keep you informed if any similar properties come to the market.”
Social media users agreed the gesture was a nice touch and while it wasn’t necessary, it would have been appreciated.
“I actually think they didn’t have to give anything but they did. The wording could’ve been better but still something for nothing,” one person responded.
“They didn’t have to give sh*t. And they did,” another said.
Some argued there must have been an underlying motivation for the agent which they accused of suggesting the buyer not get back in touch until they had more money.
“The real message here is bugger off and don’t annoy me anymore until you have a lot more money,” one person wrote.
It’s not all bad for the hopeful buyer though, and not just because of the kind letter and scratchie.
Homeowners have just been slapped with the RBA raising interest rates for the 10th consecutive time – this time by 25 basis points to 3.6 per cent.
