Gwyneth Paltrow ate dinner at a Bay Area restaurant this week
Gwyneth Paltrow dined at a Palo Alto restaurant this week, according to the San Francisco Chronicle (the Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms). The actress and Goop founder stopped by Ethel’s Fancy for dinner while in town for an event at Stanford University, owner Scott Nishiyama told the Chronicle.
“Truly excellent dinner at @ethelsfancy,” Paltrow shared on her Instagram story with a photo of the restaurant’s caviar-topped tuna tartare.
Paltrow and her husband, Brad Falchuk, dined with some friends at the seasonal California restaurant Monday evening before catching a flight back to Los Angeles, Nishiyama told the Chronicle. The group’s special menu included tuna tartare, soft-shell crab, asparagus in dashi broth and yuzu kosho-glazed Alaskan halibut.
Ethel’s Fancy opened last fall, the first restaurant from former fine dining chef Nishiyama. While Nishiyama previously worked in Michelin-starred restaurants like the French Laundry in Yountville, Ethel’s Fancy is a decidedly more casual affair. The atmosphere is an “epic dinner party of sharing plates, mighty drinks, and rocking tunes,” reads its website.
This isn’t the first time Paltrow has shared praise for a Bay Area restaurant on social media. Back in 2018, she raved over a meal she had at San Francisco’s Che Fico, and she later featured a sourdough pizza recipe from the restaurant on Goop.
SFGATE could not reach Ethel’s Fancy or Goop representatives for comment in time for publication.
