Girls outperform boys in Class 10 and 12 board exams, drop in overall pass percentage

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Friday declared the results of Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. The board registered an overall pass percentage of 87.33 per cent in Class 12 results, a 5 per cent drop as compared to 92.71 per cent in 2022.

Of the 16,60,511 students who had appeared for the Class 12 board exams, 14,50,174 passed.

Girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 90.6 per cent this year. The overall pass percentage of boys stood at 84.67 per cent. While girls outperformed boys in almost all states and union territories, in Lakshadweep both girls and boys scored a 100 per cent pass percentage and in Mizoram, boys outperformed girls by 0.6 per cent.

Thiruvananthapuram had a pass percentage of 99.91 per cent and Bengaluru was a close second with 98.64 per cent. Prayagraj registered the lowest pass percentage of 78.05 per cent.

Among institutions, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas registered the highest percentage of students clearing the exam (97.51 per cent), the Central Tibetan School Administration came a close second with a pass percentage of 96.77 per cent, followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas with 92.51 per cent and independent schools with 87.95. Government schools lagged behind, with a pass percentage of 83.3 per cent.

Meanwhile, the CBSE Friday also announced that it will not award first, second and third divisions to students, in a bid to avoid unhealthy competition. The board, however, added that it will award merit certificates to 0.1 per cent students who have scored the highest marks in subjects.

Students can check their results on the DigiLocker site and application. The CBSE had recently also released an official notice regarding the security pin for DigiLocker. The board has issued six-digit security pins for activating students’ DigiLocker accounts that schools can download using their LOC credentials from digilocker.gov.in.

Class 10 results

The pass percentage of Class 10 board exams too witnessed a minor drop this year. The overall pass percentage stood at 93.12 per cent as compared to 94.40 per cent in 2022.

Of the total 21,65805 students who appeared this year, 20,16779 managed to clear the exam.

Thiruvananthapuram again remained the region with the highest pass percentage of 99.91 per cent. Bengaluru came second with 99.18 per cent and Guwahati had a pass percentage of 76.90 per cent.

Girls again outshone boys in Class 10 board exams, with a pass percentage of 94.25 per cent. Around 92.27 per cent boys cleared the exam.
