For the first time in 55 years, McDonald’s will offer Big Mac sauce in dipping cups
Do you love Big Mac sauce so much that you’d slather it on your McMuffin and dip your French fries in it?
Your opportunity is coming up.
Starting April 27, McDonald’s will offer its Big Mac sauce — also known as special sauce, for those who remember the “two all-beef patties …” jingle, or secret sauce — in dipping cups. They’ll be available via the McDonald’s app only, and only for a limited time.
“Whatever you call it, fans have been asking for an extra side of our famous Big Mac sauce for years,” the restaurant’s promotions team said in Wednesday’s announcement. “And now, it’s finally getting its moment in the spotlight on our menu.”
While supplies last, fans can select it as a sauce option, at no additional charge, to pair with a purchase of Chicken McNuggets. The cups also may be purchased a la carte (limit five) to enjoy with any McDonald’s menu item, although pricing and availability will be at the discretion of each individual restaurant, a representative said.
The Big Mac made its nationwide debut in 1968, with the two burger patties topped with cheese and what was then called “secret sauce.” The “special sauce” name was adopted in the early 1970s.
In 2017, the company botted Big Mac sauce and offered it as a giveaway, prompting hundreds of Bay Area fans to line up early to score one of the coveted bottles. Nationwide, 10,000 were gifted to customers.
