Firefly Lane Book Fans Have Complaints About The Netflix Adaptation – Looper

Fans of “Firefly Lane” who are familiar with the source material seem to think that the adaptation would be better if it were more faithful to the book of the same name by Kristin Hannah. On the r/FireflyLane subreddit, many fans shared their disappointment in the changes that had been made in the adaptation and why they preferred the original story as a result.

“I watched the show and really enjoyed it,” wrote u/Rude-Negotiations3301. “Then I decided to read the book – just finished and I was in tears when I was done. And I think the show shouldn’t have changed so many things.” The user also pointed out several plot changes, which made the story less powerful. This fan wasn’t alone in criticizing the “Firefly Lane” series in relation to the book that inspired it.

“Just can’t wrap my head around why they needed to make so many departures from the book,” said u/StringsAttached972. “It’s kind of boggling my mind actually. Anyone else having this challenge?” Both threads had their fair share of book readers who agreed with the OP, meaning that this is clearly not an isolated opinion for fans of “Firefly Lane.”

“I just finished the book and really enjoyed it so I started the first episode to the Netflix series and I’m already really disappointed!” wrote u/gentle_meow “Anyone here read the book before watching the show??” Unfortunately for fans of the novel, the Netflix series is in the middle of wrapping up its second and final season, so it would seem that those disappointed with the show will likely continue to be.
