After a prolonged removal of the quesarito from Taco Bell menus, the fan-favorite item will finally be completely gone starting April 19, according to Today.

The quesadilla-burrito mashup food — a quesadilla with seasoned beef, chipotle sauce, rice, melted cheese and sour cream rolled into the shape of a burrito — first hit Taco Bell menus in 2014. The fast food company helped popularize the combination food, though Chipotle was credited as creating the idea in 2011 as part of its secret menu.

Taco Bell began to remove the quesarito from menus back in August 2020. Since then, it has only been available to order through the Taco Bell website or app. In just a few weeks, it won’t be available on those platforms either.

The popularity of the original quesarito, which could also be customized with steak, chicken or beans, led to variations on the product. The sriracha quesarito, which had a dash of the Los Angeles-created hot sauce, was a limited-time option that ran for three months in 2015. Similarly, the volcano quesarito featured Lava Sauce — a spicy nacho-cheese filling — and debuted in September 2015. Lava Sauce dates back to 1995, when the condiment was created in partnership with the release of the movie “Congo.”

While Taco Bell has dropped the quesarito from its menus, it’s bringing back two other items: the Double Steak Grilled Cheese Burrito and the Bacon Club Chalupa.

Taco Bell tends to do this every once in a while. It removes an item but then brings back another one that has been gone for some time. The quesarito will undoubtedly make its return. The question is: When?
