Ex-Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy hospitalised following fever & fatigue, hospital says he is medically stable

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy was admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru yesterday following fever and fatigue.

“Mr HD Kumaraswamy was admitted on April 22, 2023, evening to Manipal Hospital, old airport Road Bengaluru under care of Dr Satyanarayana Mysore. He is admitted with symptoms of exhaustion and generalised weakness. All relevant medical tests and treatment is being carried out. He is medically stable and is recuperating,” Manipal Hospital said in a statement.

However, Kumaraswamy in a statement said that there is “no need for panic” and he will resume campaigning after taking rest. The doctors have said that he developed symptoms of fever after being “tirelessly” involved in election campaigning.

He has also developed a minor lung infection and is said to be affected by dust allergy. The former Chief Minister was advised hospitalisation following symptoms of fever. His supporters and party workers are being asked not to come to the premises of the hospital.

Sources close to him have said that he might be discharged by Sunday evening.

Party workers and family members are concerned about Kumaraswamy’s health as he had undergone heart surgery earlier.

Earlier, Kumaraswamy had said that he hopes that the party will win the maximum seats in south Karnataka where its roots are stronger. He also said he is optimistic about winning seats in the double digits in north Karnataka as well.The JD(S) leader is “single-handedly” leading the party’s campaign across the state for the May 10 Assembly elections.

In Bengaluru, the party is all set to win five seats. The Dasarahalli seat is held by the JD-S and it will retain it. Yelahanka, Yeshwanthpur, Gandhinagar and Basavanagudi constituencies are going to be taken by the JD-S. Anekal constituency in Bengaluru Rural will also be won by the party, he asserted.

Kumaraswamy had challenged the national parties that they will have to come to his doorstep after the elections. He appears to be more confident as the polls are nearing.

After the exit of former CM Jagadish Shettar from the BJP, Kumaraswamy had stated that his party does not have such strong leaders. Exuding confidence. Kumaraswamy is banking on his 20-month and 13-month rule as the CM.
