DeSantis Opens Up About ‘Shattering’ Moment His Sister Died

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis opened up during an interview with Piers Morgan about the “shattering” moment he learned of his younger sister’s death. The full interview is set to air Thursday.

DeSantis’ sister, Christina, died in 2015 at the age of 30 after pulmonary embolism in London, according to the New York Post.

“It was just a shattering experience. I remember my mom calling me, my wife and I were on our way back from church on a Sunday morning, and she said that Christina was in the hospital and she had a blood clot but was stable,” DeSantis recounted, according to the Post. “She was in the hospital for a couple of days and then had the embolism and died and I just didn’t think that was even possible at that point because I thought that he was stable. You have your sibling, their future was robbed and it’s something I wish I could get back. “She was in Charlotte at the time working for a bank but she always wanted to get back here and so she would be here probably being involved in a lot of stuff that we were doing,” he continued. “I was a the big brother so we were 7 years apart. It’s a tough thing. People have their whole lives ahead of them and when you’re talking about that age, it’s a big tragedy.”

DeSantis said that, after his sister’s death, he found comfort in his Catholic faith, according to the report.

During the same interview, DeSantis also spoke of a potential 2024 run, telling Morgan that although he hasn’t officially made a decision, he’s more focused on winning against President Joe Biden than against former President Donald Trump. DeSantis also criticized Trump’s leadership during the pandemic.
