Danville extends parklet dining, to require permits
By Tony Hicks | Bay City News Foundation
The Danville Town Council has unanimously agreed to extend the temporary operation of expanded outdoor restaurant dining on public and private property, including “parklets,” until Jan. 2, 2025.
The extension is subject to adopted design and development standards, which focus on the overall design for the outdoor dining areas, offering options for modular prefabricated designs or custom-design build options. Safety, maintenance and operation standards are also factors.
Previously issued temporary land use permits allowing expanded outdoor dining are set to expire Jan. 3.
Restaurant operators wishing to continue offering expanded outdoor seating areas will need to apply for new temporary land use and building permits. Otherwise, all temporary tents, canopies, signs, electrical hookups, metal barricades and such must be removed from public and private property by Jan. 3.
The town said in a statement it’s encouraging restaurant/property owners to review the recently adopted design guidelines and development standards soon and to contact the planning division at 925-314-3349 or go to www.danville.ca.gov/795/Temporary-Outdoor-Permits for more information.
