Congress releases Rahul Gandhi’s letter of promises

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has struck a “tapasvi” mode during his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra, in his letter to citizens promises to give “voice to the voiceless”, to be “the weapon of the weak”, to take India “from darkness to light”, to banish all socio-economic evils and usher in an era of prosperity, including cheaper fuel prices and LPG cylinder at ₹500.

In his ‘election campaign-sounding’ letter that is also a reflection on his yatra experience, Gandhi skirts mentioning in what capacity – as the de facto Congress boss or a wannabee prime ministerial challenger to PM Modi – is he making the promises, even as he projected Congress as a credible alternative. The letter is intended to be taken to every household by Congress workers.

A copy of the letter was released to the media by AICC on Friday. Spokesman Jairam Ramesh said copies of the letter would be distributed to every household by Congress workers during Haath Se Haath Jodo Abhiyan beginning January 26, planned as post-yatra build-up, with an eye on 2024 LS polls.

Unlike the yatra photos which focus solely on Rahul, the letterhead has photos of Congress symbol ‘hand’, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi on top and a larger photo of Rahul Gandhi at the bottom.
