Calcutta HC orders 2nd post-mortem of slain BJP functionary Bijoy Krishna Bhunia
A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday ordered a second post-mortem examination of slain BJP worker Bijoy Krishna Bhunia at the central government-run Command Hospital in Kolkata within 72 hours.
Bhunia, BJP’s booth president for Moyna in East Midnapore district, was allegedly kidnapped and murdered on Monday. His body was found close to his residence in Moyna.
The court also directed that Bhunia’s family be provided central security cover for the next four weeks. It also directed that the autopsy be videographed.
The Command Hospital will give the post-mortem report to the family and the police station, people in the know said.
Justice Raj Sekhar Mantha directed the central force to provide security to the family of the deceased and asked the state to submit a report on the incident by Monday. Police will continue the probe, the court said.
People in the know said a medical board is to be constituted to oversee the post-mortem.
The court, however, did not order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation, as demanded by BJP. BJP had moved court on Tuesday seeking a CBI probe into the case. Bhunia’s wife said, “Police did not come to help us when my son called them. My son pleaded for help when we were attacked.”BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said, “Had police helped Bhunia, then a life would not have been lost.”
