Brutal mistake hits 13k HSC students

The organisation blamed a system error for a rejection email sent out on Thursday to thousands of students saying they didn’t get a spot.

Those who received the letter did not manage to secure a place in a course in the December round of offers, however, could receive an offer into university in the January round, the correspondence claimed.

The UAC apologised to students in a follow up email informing them of the mistake.

“Please disregard the email you received today telling you your application was unsuccessful. It was sent in error,” the Admissions Centre said.

“Not all institutions make offers in December round 2 … Some institutions wait until January round 1. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience and please contact us if you need any assistance.”

The incorrect rejection email comes just two weeks after this year’s HSC results were published early.

The NSW Education Standards Authority (Nesa) published a link to some students’ results five days before they were set to be officially released on December 15.

“For a short period this morning, some students were able to access a preliminary set of 2022 HSC results,” a spokesperson said on December 10.

“Nesa is investigating the cause of the issue and sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
