Blue Bottle Coffee is closing its second oldest SF cafe
The Blue Bottle Coffee at San Francisco’s Mint Plaza is closing next week, according to a sign posted on the cafe’s door Thursday. The SoMa location’s last day is scheduled for April 14.
“Since opening this cafe, it has been our honor to serve our Mint Plaza guests with distinction,” read the sign. “This location will always hold a special place in our hearts and we have immense gratitude for our guests who have made this cafe such a special place for the past 15 years.”
Having opened in 2008, this was Blue Bottle’s second oldest location.
Employees at the 66 Mint St. cafe will be transferred to other nearby Blue Bottle cafes, according to the sign. Neighboring locations include 705 Market St., 168 2nd St., 199 Sutter St. and 55 S Van Ness Ave. SFGATE could not reach Blue Bottle for comment in time for publication.
Blue Bottle began in 2002 as a stand at Oakland farmers markets and was acquired by Nestle in 2017. In late 2021, Blue Bottle shut down its original Oakland location in Jack London Square, having moved its headquarters years prior. Today, the chain has about 100 stores — not only in the U.S., but also in Japan, South Korea and China.
