By India Today Web Desk: Right-handed batter Ollie Pope said that England have flourished under skipper Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. Pope was one of the four batters who scored centuries for the Three Lions on Day 1 of the opening Test against Pakistan at Rawalpindi International Stadium.

After opting to bat first, the visiting team racked up a massive score of 506 for the loss of four wickets on a beautiful batting pitch in Rawalpindi.

Pope said that England have tried to follow in the footsteps of McCullum and Stokes, who both took charge of the Test team earlier this year after Joe Root and Chris Silverwood stepped down.

“We really listened to what Baz [McCullum] and Stokesy have said. It was an amazing day. The best thing is everyone has lived by how the two guys up top want us to play. They want us to entertain people,” Pope was quoted as saying to Sky Sports.

“It is not about milestones. It is about putting on a show and putting the team in a good position. The fact everyone is so happy to buy into that puts us in a really good place,” he stated.

As far as Pope is concerned, he scored 108 runs off 104 balls with the help of 14 fours. After England lost the quick wickets of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in a space of seven balls, Pope put on 51 along with Joe Root.

After Root got out, Pope stitched together a 176-run stand with Harry Brook for the fourth wicket to put England in a commanding position.
