Aussie baby fighting for life in Bali
An Australian mum is desperately seeking help for her seven-week-old daughter, who is fighting for her life in a Bali hospital.
The baby girl, named Lucky, was admitted to the intensive care unit after developing a severe bacterial infection in her lungs that has left her unable to breathe without a ventilator.
Doctors have warned the Melbourne-raised mother, Honey Ahimsa, that her daughter may not survive in the hospital in Bali, and the family is now seeking to transport Lucky to Australia or Singapore for medical treatment.
However, the cost of an air ambulance, estimated at $90,000, is prohibitive.
“We don’t want to lose her … we’re speaking with the air ambulance so we can fly her to Australia,” Ms Ahimsa said on Thursday.
“She’s only seven weeks old and she’s very beautiful … she is such a sweet little baby girl, she’s very gentle. We really just want her to live a long life.”
The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the expenses of air transport and medical care, with over $83,172 in donations received as of Thursday evening.
With Lucky’s condition rapidly deteriorating, each day in the Bali hospital is costing the family $8000.
Ms Ahimsa has taken to social media to appeal to the public for support, both in terms of financial contributions and prayers for her daughter.
