All Of Abigail Brand’s Mutant Powers Explained

According to Marvel, Abigail Brand is the daughter of a blue-furred alien and a human woman who works for SWORD, an organization that battles otherworldly and extraterrestrial threats. Since joining the organization, Brand has climbed the ranks all the way to the top, where she now serves as the director of SWORD.

The character first appeared in “Astonishing X-Men” #3, but wasn’t properly introduced until “Astonishing X-Men” # 6 (via Comic Book Invest). Abigail has the ability to generate heat and flames, a power which is known as Tactile Pyrokinesis. Apparently, she can make flames so hot that they can melt through metal, and while many Marvel characters and fans long believed that her powers were a result of her alien lineage, Brand herself asserts that her powers come from her mother’s genes, making her a mutant (via Fandom). However, she did seem to inherit the ability to speak alien languages without a translator from her father. 

Abigail also appears to either have hardened skin or a sort of regenerative ability, as she survived being blasted with a laser cannon while trying to protect Beast during the Breakworld arc in Marvel comics. This act of devotion seems to show that she has feelings for the wise blue warrior, though Beast has not been revealed as part of “Secret Invasion” yet. It’s not known if the MCU’s version of Abigal will have all (or any) of these powers from the comics, as there are plenty of details still to come about the Disney+ series. Fans can no doubt look forward to learning more in the lead-up to the release of “Secret Invasion” in 2023.
