By India Today Web Desk: Australia T20I captain Aaron Finch said on Sunday, 6 November that he will not be retiring from T20I cricket just yet. Australia had a terrible campaign in the T20 World Cup. The side were knocked out from the Super-12 stages of the tournament from Group 1 due to inferior net run rate.
Finch himself had a disappointing run in the competition, scoring just one half century as the Australian batting order failed as a whole to come crunch. The team fell to a massive to New Zealand in their opener of the competition, losing by 89 runs – something that affected their NRR terribly.
“No, I’m not going to retire. Not just yet,” Finch told Seven on Sunday after Australia’s campaign ended in the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup.
“I’ll play Big Bash and see where we sit after that, but I’m still enjoying playing cricket, playing T20,” the Australian captain further added.
“There’s not another international T20 until August, so there’s quite a long break,” Finch said.
“Still plenty of time to be able to weigh all that up. It’s been a pretty good ride regardless of what happens,” the captain who retired from ODI cricket in September assessed.
Finch, one of the Australia’s best white-ball openers in the modern era has been going through a terrible patch of form over the last few years, but captained Australia to a T20 World Cup win in the United Arab Emirates. Finch has also captained Australia for the most number of matches in T20Is and also has the most runs as a captain in the T20I format.
