These Sweet and Savory “Hocus Pocus” Charcuterie Boards Are Absolutely Bewitching

If you’re hosting a spooky movie night this Halloween, good snacks are a must. While cheese and cold cuts might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Halloween, this enchanting charcuterie board inspired by “Hocus Pocus” is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Not only is it on theme, but it’s perfect for witches, mortals, and all supernatural beings in between.

The snack board, designed by Courtney Wright on Instagram in 2020, has clearly put a spell on TikTok, because it’s making the rounds for the third year in a row, and I’m tempted to serve up Winifred’s salami curls with some crackers ASAP. If you’re ready to start crafting your charcuterie board, read on for Wright’s savory and sweet versions that will wow your movie guests and keep them snacking all night long.

The Savory “Hocus Pocus” Charcuterie Board

Like a recipe straight out of the Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook, the charcuterie board pays homage to the Sanderson sisters by re-creating their likenesses out of a few spooky snacks, including brie for their faces, cheddar crumbles for Sarah’s hair, blackberries for Mary’s hair, and salami rolls for Winnie’s hair. (Wright recommends folding the salami in half before rolling it and sticking it in the fridge to help it hold its shape.) The board is fleshed out with other tasty morsels like Trader Joe’s Ghosts & Bats Potato Snacks, mandarin wedges, halved kiwi berries, chips, crackers, and more.

“The idea for the savory ‘Hocus Pocus’ grazing board quite literally popped into my head after seeing that the movie was starting to run on Freeform as part of their 31 Nights of Halloween,” Wright told POPSUGAR. “‘Hocus Pocus’ has always been my favorite Halloween movie, and I was inspired to create something I’d never done before. The Sanderson sisters are so iconic — I couldn’t stop thinking about how their look could be created on something like a grazing board. I instantly knew that I wanted to use brie rounds for the faces, rolled salami for Winnifred’s hair, and blackberries for Mary’s. I honestly had no idea how it would turn out but was thrilled with the result!”

The Sweet “Hocus Pocus” Dessert Board

To create the sweet version of this enchanting party snack, she used iced cookies for their faces, an edible marker for smaller details, unraveled Twizzlers for Winnie’s hair, lemon sour straws for Sarah’s hair, and gummy berries for Mary’s hair. “I had to keep the fun going with a sweet version for this year and had a blast experimenting with different types of candy to get just the right look,” Wright said. “I absolutely love seeing people get inspired to create and share their versions at home!”

If you’re planning to put the candy board together yourself this Halloween, Wright recommends surrounding the sisters’ hair with candies in opposing colors so their faces stand out. And don’t be afraid to go all out on the candy selections. Wright turned her board into a sugar feast by filling in the edges with a mixture of lollipops, oversize gummy candy corn, gummy cat faces, gummy pumpkins, gummy witch hats, sour bats, gummy peaches, M&M’s, and more. It’s basically a dessert smorgasbord, and we call first dibs.

Savory or sweet, these charcuterie boards inspired by “Hocus Pocus” definitely have us spellbound. See how other people put their own spooky twists on the charcuterie boards here, and keep reading to take a peek at the finished Sanderson sisters dessert board ahead.
