Undies-clad hero who fought off armed intruders reveals surprising job ‘offer’

A larrikin by nature, Steve Middleton jokes his viral confrontation with a group of armed youths while he was wearing only his underwear has him on the verge of a Victoria’s Secret sponsorship.

Asked on Sunrise if he had received any feedback after video of the incident made its way across the internet on Boxing Day, the 50-year-old said: “ Well, I’ve got Victoria’s Secret ringing me.”

But the Queensland dad knows the incident on Boxing Day has a “serious side” – the issue of youth crime on the Gold Coast.

“We’ve seen the funny side of it but there is a serious side,” he told Sunrise on Tuesday.

“It could have been a lot worse.

“It’s quite scary. I could have been well and truly injured in this. And what about the next people?

“We have to do something about it.”

Middleton was naked when he found a young male rummaging through his car in his garage at his Mermaid Waters home about 4.30am on Monday morning.

The intruder ran off and Middleton gave chase – but only after making the decision to throw on his undies.

Security camera footage shows members of the group, believed to have comprised of young males, pulling what appeared to be a knife and baseball bat on him during the ensuing confrontation.

However Middle said he acted on “pure instinct”.

“No one was going to steal from us. It was just spontaneous,” he said.
