300K+ Bottled Starbucks Drinks Have Been Recalled Due to Potential Glass Contamination
Coffee lovers, listen up: More than 25,000 cases of bottled Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccinos have been recalled by manufacturer PepsiCo Inc. due to potential glass contamination, according to a statement from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The cases each include a dozen 13.7 fluid-ounce bottles, putting the total number of recalled drinks over 300,000.
The chilled frappuccinos aren’t available in Starbucks stores, but they are usually sold at popular nationwide chains like Target, Walmart, and Safeway, as well as Amazon. The affected products are marked with the following universal product code (UPC):
And they have one of the following expiration dates:
- March 8, 2023
- May 29, 2023
- June 4, 2023
- June 10, 2023
This isn’t the first time Starbucks bottled drinks have posed potential safety risks: Last summer, more than 200 cases of the company’s Vanilla Espresso Triple Shot 15-ounce bottles, also manufactured by PepsiCo Inc., were recalled due to possible contamination with metal fragments, as SELF previously reported.
If you find any bottled Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccinos with the above packaging details in your refrigerator, you should throw them out: The recall is categorized as Class II, meaning that exposure to the product could cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” or “serious adverse health consequences,” per the FDA. Ingesting glass fragments can cause a multitude of injuries, including lacerations of the mouth and throat, damage to the teeth, and perforation of the intestine, per the agency. The statement didn’t specify whether the recalled Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccinos have been linked to any injuries.
