Many Office Fans Agree That A Reboot Would Be A Horrible Idea – Looper

“The Office” started as a remake and became its own unique, hilarious entity, thanks to Greg Daniels and other fantastic writers, and continued for nine seasons. But when it first aired, many fans of the British show were skeptical, as even Daniels noted to Collider. “A lot of people were very down on it because they were like, ‘It’ll never be as good as the English show,'” he said.

The Americanized “The Office” isn’t the only example of a good remake, either. Few would argue that 2004’s “Battlestar Galactica,” a remake of the popular series that debuted in 1978, is better than the original. But it won numerous awards, including a Peabody and three Emmys, and critics and audiences praised the performances of the cast, especially Edward James Olmos, Katee Sackhoff, and Mary McDonnell.

While many fans of Steve Carell and John Krasinski’s “The Office” hate the idea of anyone messing with their show, most can agree that a “The Office” reunion is different. “I just want a reunion special. That would make my heart soar with the eagle’s nest,” wrote u/JustAsHotAsJan. Even Daniels is on board. “People are more open to it now,” he told E! News. “I think the issue is, what is left to be said about the characters? There’s been some talk of maybe a “Friends” style reunion kind of thing. I don’t know, it’s still pretty vague.”
