At one point in the Jeep commercial, there’s a shot of the dashboard screen, where viewers can see that the song playing is “Electric Boogie” by Shaggy, featuring Marcia Griffiths, Amber Lee, Jamila Falak, and Moyann. Shaggy is no stranger to big ads; his most famous hit, “It Wasn’t Me,” was used for a Cheetos ad starring Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.
The song was originally by Marcia Griffiths and reggae legend Bunny Wailer, who passed away in 2021, but it was later remixed by Shaggy with added vocals by Lee, Falak, and Moyann. Shaggy spoke about what an amazing opportunity it was to remix the classic song to DancehallMag, saying, “Over the years I’ve become close friends with Marcia so I was very excited when the Jeep brand asked me to remake a 2023 updated version of this classic for their new campaign. Our collective aim was to put the spotlight on Marcia and her remarkable voice while capturing the authentic culture that the song represents.”
Griffiths and Wailer’s original song still gets plenty of use to this day. “Electric Boogie” appeared in Episode 6 of “She-Hulk” when Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) gets into a fight with Titania (Jameela Jamil) at a wedding. It’s an appropriate song choice, seeing how “Electric Boogie” has gone on to become a staple at numerous weddings.
