Virat Kohli becomes fifth batter to score 4,000 Test runs in India | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Batting maestro Virat Kohli on Saturday became the fifth Indian to score 4000 Test runs on home soil. Kohli got to the landmark in the final session on Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad.
Kohli achieved the feat in his 50th Test at home and has scored the runs at an average of over 58.

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 7216 runs in 94 Tests at an average of 52.67.
Rahul Dravid, who finished with 5598 runs in 70 Tests at home averaged 51.35.
The third and fourth batters on the list are Sunil Gavaskar — 5067 runs in 65 Tests — and Virender Sehwag — 4656 runs in 52 Tests.
Kohli also notched up his 29th Test fifty off 107 balls as India chased Australia’s first innings score of 480.

It was the first half-century for Kohli since January 2022 and also the first 50-plus score in 16 innings in Tests – the longest stretch without a 50+ score in his career.

India currently have an unassailable 2-1 lead over Australia in the 4-Test series.
