TV tonight: the doomed life of presenter Paula Yates

Paula

9pm, Channel 4

“It’s kind of a weird feeling that everyone’s waiting for you to die,” says Paula Yates, before explaining how a tabloid newspaper sent her her own obituary that was headlined: “Suicide blonde.” An actor relays Yates’s own words recorded on never-before-heard tapes in this two-part documentary about the presenter’s life and accidental death at 41. “Intoxicating”, “an incredibly good mother” and “a flirt” are just some of the ways she is described by those who knew her. Better

9pm, BBC One

“Everything we’ve done, what have we got to show for it, Col?” Lou asks in this week’s seismic finale. The toxic tango between the pair reaches a climax and we are all begging for a resolution. Long, drawn-out moments of tension leave us to ponder the series’ central theme of morality and redemption. But there will be bloodshed. The question is: whose will it be? Micha Frazer-Carroll

Parole

9pm, BBC Two

This week, the parole board needs to decide if Mark – a 32-year-old who disagrees with the sentence he received for charges that involved threatening to kill someone – deserves another chance. Also, can cocaine addict Tom stay clean after his release while living with his mum, who has trained as a hypnotherapist to help him? HR

Unforgotten

9pm, ITV1

DCI Jess James (Sinéad Keenan) isn’t making any friends at the nick with that spiky, sarky attitude, but at least the case can progress, with the murdered woman’s mother now talking. The mix of intriguingly complex characters with believably fraught lives ensures Unforgotten is as good as ever – maybe even better. Ellen E Jones

The Last of Us

9pm, Sky Atlantic

Clickers! Bloaters! Cannibals! We’ve had it all in this near-perfect video-game adaptation about a world ravaged by a fungal pandemic. Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) finally make it to Fireflies HQ, where Joel questions who gets to play God. Players of the game will know what happens pretty much word for word – at one point, it feels as if you’re the one shooting and reloading. HR

Sex Actually With Alice Levine

10pm, Channel 4

In the final episode of this eye-opening (and sometimes eye-burning) series, brave Levine enters the world of feedism. In the UK, she meets mums who make food fetish videos, before heading to the US to speak with two leaders in “fat-fetish porn”. HR
