Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the election returns published today show “so-called” teal independents raised a “staggering” $10 million for May’s federal election.
Mr Clennell said a lot of assistance came from billionaires Simon Holmes a Court, Scott Farquhar and Mike Cannon-Brookes.
Independent MP Kylea Tink received $808,411 from Climate 200 donations, which was the most received from the initiative.
This was followed by independents Kate Chaney and Sophie Scamps, who received $786,532 and $779,625 respectively.
“You’d have to say they owe something to those big donors,” Mr Clennell said.
“No matter how much they say, ‘we’re different to politicians’, those are vast amounts of money.”
