Sun-Maid Takes Over ‘Halloweentown’ Setting for Halloween

There’s no bigger disappointment on Halloween than looking down at your collection of treats and finding a box of raisins instead of your favorite sweets.

After failing to make the cut for the candy-focused holiday year after year, raisins have once again found themselves as the butt of the joke during the spooky season. Let’s be honest: It’s no secret that nobody likes to see anything in their trick-or-treat bag other than candy—and even raisin maker Sun-Maid agrees.

This year, America’s most iconic raisin brand is getting the last laugh over the unwanted Halloween treat with a mischievous new prank, involving loads of the dried fruit snack.

Sun-Maid

According to a press release shared with Parade, the popular snack brand will be taking over St. Helens, Oregon—the real city where the cult classic 1998 movie Halloweentown was famously filmed. Sun-Maid will be ransacking—or should we say ransnacking—all of the candy it can find around town and replacing it with the scariest alternative: raisins.

During the famed month-long celebration called the “Spirit of Halloweentown,” Sun-Maid will be deploying “Raisin Zombies,” replacing “any and all” candy with their famous raisins, while also being sure to deliver more frights and scares wherever they can while “adorning beloved décor around the town with the brand’s iconic red bonnet.”
