Sporting fans have slammed the prices of food at a US F1 event, citing ‘Fyre Festival vibes”.
Peter McCormack, a podcast host, sparked a discussion about the prices of food at the Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix 2023 event on Twitter.
He shared a photo of his Wagyu steak sandwich, saying it cost him $42 USD ($62 AUD).

“You’re kidding, right?” someone said, to which McCormack simply replied: “nope”.
“You’ve been scammed,” another person responded.
Many had a similar question: “Where’s the Wagyu?”
“My brother in Christ that is lunch meat,” another person commented. “Did they really advertise Wagyu?”
Another commenter said McCormack had been “truly taken for a ride”.
$500 prawn cocktails
Jon Schaff shared a photo of one of the food menus from the event in response to McCormack’s post, saying “I thought this was a different currency at first”.
The menu, promoting meals for four people to share, offered a watermelon and tomatillo salad for $250 ($370 AUD), lobster rolls for $450 ($665 AUD), crab cakes also for $450 ($665 AUD), a prawn cocktail for $500 ($740 AUD) and more.
Diners could also add caviar to any item for $400 ($592 AUD).
“It was terrible too,” Schaff said.
“Those $300 steamed buns better come with dancing cutlery, the password to Prince William’s email account, a gentle kiss on the forehead from the chef himself, and $290,” a commenter said in response.
“We really pride ourselves on delivering the very best food and beverages from the South Florida region and incorporating it into this global event, including 14 locally based, minority-owned restaurants,” President of the 2023 Miami Grand Prix event Tyler Epp told the Miami New Times in April.
“We’ve really upped the ante this year.”
