In this Year of the Rabbit, San Jose restaurants are offering menu items that celebrate the Lunar New Year but do not feature the long-eared zodiac animal.
iChina in in Westfield Valley Fair Mall delivers a Cantonese-inspired menu from its talented Michelin-led culinary team through Feb. 5. Gourmet dishes include braised South African abalone with Iberian ham, Alaska silver cod marinated in a sesame mala sauce, red bean sweet dumplings served in a tangerine peel soup and Dungeness crab fried rice. iChina is open daily for lunch and dinner,and is located on the second floor of the mall.
LB Steak in Santana Row is serving Wagyu fried rice through Feb. 12. This $42 plate of decadence is made with Miyazaki Wagyu, maple compressed pork belly, black rice, Fuji apples and Shishito peppers.
In a twist on tradition, each guest purchasing this entrée will receive a red envelope containing a special offer redeemable on a future visit. Offers range from free appetizers and desserts to a free Tomahawk steak. Red envelope special offers must be redeemed by March 31 and presented at the time of visit. Limit one per table, valid on food purchases only; holidays and happy hour are excluded.
LB Steak will turn its attention to Valentine’s Day Feb. 10-13, with dinner specials featuring Hokkaido scallops with pomme pavé, truffle paste, golden Osetra caviar and pancetta ($60); lobster black rice risotto with lobster tail and forbidden black rice ($60); and a 14-oz. bone-in filet with bone marrow and truffle compound butter ($160). Prices are exclusive of beverages, tax and gratuity.
Left Bank Brasserie in Santana Row will serve a Bonne Saint Valentin prix fixe dinner menu Feb. 10-13, with options for three courses for $95 or four courses starting at $120. The latter starts with with Beau Soleil oysters splashed with Champagne and mignonette. Both menus include asparagus soup with Dungeness crab; Lovers Duo, which includes beef tenderloin with Madeira sauce and lobster tail with spinach and Béarnaise; and a chocolate Marquise with passionfruit and chocolate sauce. Optional wine pairing is available, and items on the prix fixe are available à la carte.
Yearning for some Middle Eastern cuisine for V-Day? Meso Modern Mediterranean on Santana Row has a four-course prix fixe dinner menu from 4 p.m. starting at $85 and featuring grilled stuffed Medjool date, stracciatella and grilled zucchini salad with pine nuts, grilled New Zealand sea bass with creamy lobster sauce, gigante beans and shaved fennel salad or an 8-oz. prime hanger steak with celery root purée.
